The PO broke the clips that hold the rear window trim onto the car. I then lost 1/2 the trim on the highway. If I get new trim, what is the best way to affix the trim to the window? It looks as if the clips cannot be replaced without removing the window.
Is the trim anything more than a cosmetic piece? Can it stay off the car (while I drive in shame)?
Cheers,
Roland

I went through this. I glued my old trim on with weatherstrip adhesive when the clips started failing. Later I cracked my windshield and upon replacement, I had to ruin my trim to get it off. The glue was just too strong. So... If you have to buy new trim which I did, each piece is $75 from BMA, I don't think I would want to glue it on. I would suggest looking for a used piece and gluing it on. the weatherstrip adhesive is available from autozone or whatever parts store you use. Then if you need to replace your windshield, plan on buying new trim and clips. The trim is just cosmetic, it has nothing to do with the seal or the windshield.

I remember hearing a suggestion quite some time ago to buy new clips and trim off the portion that goes underneath the glass. Then glue (epoxy?) on the clips and install your trim. I can't remember if they actally did it or just suggested it. But it's an option to consider.

It'll probably take me a few months to find the time for repairs. I like the idea of using new clips that have been trimmed. I'll report back in the future.
