My brother in law in Atlanta is thinking about buying one. All I know is there are some good and not so good replicas out there. My dad said he mentioned a company north of Atlanta near Road Atlanta that builds & sells them. Just curious to see if any of you guys have had any experience with these type vehicles.
He hasn't thought about one thing though - my sister will probably hand him divorce papers if he goes through with this!

saw one with a old ford cammer motor, he had the motor stroked out to 470 cid and with some other goodies it made around 700 hp @ 7000 rpm, he was asked what was the life expectancy of the jag rear end "i think wheel spin is the only thing that saves it" all you could see of the car was from the windshield forward from the gigantic cloud of tire smoke

Yor are correct, there are some good ones and bad ones. I hear "Superformance" is supposed to be one of the good ones.
My sisters father-in-law has one and it is extremely fast and loud and did I mention FAST!!! Cobra and ///M5 (http://www.bimmer.info/bmw/ivanc/icgallery2.html)
The Cobra has been my favorite car since I was a kid.

Classic Roadsters in Fargo, ND builds a decent quality kit. I toured their facility many years ago when all they did was Austin Healy replicas & was impressed with their quality & frame/chassis options:

Many many years ago I built an Intermeccanica Speedster replica with a 912 motor, what a hoot! Fun work & moderately easy to build & a blast to drive, only weighed 1585 lbs & I bumped the stock 102 hp motor up to approx. 125 hp (that was alot back then for a 1600 cc stock bore, stroke, compression ratio naturally asperated motor). I had more fun with that car than any I've ever owned, still kicking myself for selling it -- oh well, at least I saved the motor to put in my authentic 1958 356A coupe some day.
Have fun if you persue the Cobra project, keep us posted.

My neighbor built one last year. I'll have to check the manufacturer. I know he did a grundle of research and his car is beautiful.

I've got afriend that is currently researching the same. From what I understand (as icm5er mentioned) the 'superformance' kit is supposed to be the closest to original scale and a very well put together kit. They are located in S. Africa IIRC. Most kits are of fiberglass body composition, yet there is a company in Italy that is stamping out what they claim to be exact spec Aluminum body's for these.I can't wait for him to start his project to lend a hand, working on cars is great , working on one that everyting is brand new has got to be heaven!
