steering problem (may be dangerous)

hey guys, i'm having a problem with the steering of my bmw 520i 1989. it works fine but sometimes it gets harder or softer.
Yesterday i was driving to the university, i was going about 80-90 km/h and suddenly the steering of my car got softer. (i could even make a turn with one finger on the steering wheel)
Another time i was driving and it got so hard like if the car wasnt running.
I check the level of ATF and its fine.
I also had to change some hoses of the system
I dont have a clue of what it could be
Can you help me?

probably dirty as **** and you have partially clogged the screen filters.

ditto...try to replace the mesh filter in the bottom of the cannister...purge and refill.
Likely will solve your problem.

Did you change hoses because they failed and sprayed oil everywhere?
Is the belt tight?
Is the belt squealing?
Is the belt wet or oily?
