engine can't start, starter motor doesnt seem to want to do anything, similar to an earlier problem I had with the starter motor only going after 2-3 ignition tries (which seemed to still be there when this problem arose, very harsh & slow start up, and in the extreme case it would die on me if I turned on the fan, other times all the electrical components would just turn off, etc.)... engine was off for 30 minutes at the most before I tried to turn it back on... what the deal?

did you check battery connections? Take the clamps off, remove all dirt. If this won't help, then yuo should check the wiring.
