525 M50 Cooling fan probelm

Viscus fan doesn't seem to be working properly on my 525 with M50 engine(heats up when stopped in traffic). BMW quoting £115, anyone else I can try and I believe there is a test I can try to check the efficiency of the fan?

I had overheating problems when the AC was running. My clutch fan spun freely when cold. I bought a new one from BMA at around $90.00. The first thing I noticed with the new clutch is when I take off in first gear I can actually hear it. No overheating since.
It is hard to tell the difference between a worn clutch and a new one. I think my worn one spun about a revolution and a half when I spun it cold. The new one spins just under one revolution.

I can definetly hear mine taking off when its warm out and it sounds like a schoolbus when hot and the air is on.
