My oil drain pan has a deep dent right next to the drain plug. I didn't realize it when I bought it, but they'd just put a temporary 'nub' bolt in there to plug it up. I ordered a replacement bolt, which was the standard 12mm drain plug, but it doesn't screw all the way in - only about 1/2 way, before the deep dent stops it.
Anyone have a line on a new drain pan that will cost less than ordering right from BMW? I haven't been able to find one on BMA, alloembmwparts, or BavAuto.
TIA. -Andy

Did you call BMA?
They sometimes don't have items listed on web site

world pac doesn't list one, it may not be avalable aftermarket. if it's like the old mercedes diesels with their steel sump pan it may be cheep they run under $60 usually, or they are *******s and the stamped steel pan that cost probably under $10 to make makes your eyes water

I've been meaning to chime in on this thread- but I was a bit confused about the whole thing. What car are we talking about??
I've got several E34 oil pans- M20, M30, M50 and 530i (M60?). I think the 530i and 540i pans are the same- with an aluminum upper pan + steel lower pan (that MUST be what you're talking about- since you said it was dented in.......???)
Anyway, let me know what you need.
Thanks!

Hey Bret, it's actually an M62. It is indeed the lower part of the pan, and I'm fairly sure it's steel. What do you think about just hammering it back into shape? As long as I don't puncture the thing, that should be fine, right?

Lower pan same for 3.0 and 4.0 for all years, both engines. Upper pan is where some differences occur...
530iA, up to 9/93: 11 13 1 436 953
530iA, 9/93-4/95: 11 13 7 513 374
540iA, up to 9/93: 11 13 1 436 953
540iA, 9/93-4/95: 11 13 7 513 374
9/93 was the split date for the upper pans on both cars, but the same lower pan is used throughout.
