find it in most inner city cross streets, may go under other names as I havent "experimented" in a bit.
you might need to keep a lookout on Ebay if you dont mind used. new IS nice but a bit pricey to me.

your 535 uses the pin ass sized differential jusy like mine. the 540 is much beefier. the one we need is so small and pin it wouldnt last one race day at a quartermile track, made for smooth power no impact design.

Give me a couple of days- I know where some E34/E32 LSD's are hiding- just need to confirm what ratios are available. I believe that Koala's price is for a "rebuilt" unit, probably with increase lockup %..... Still hard to justify the price IMHO......

You will have to change out more than the differential, change the input flange and the driveshaft output, the axle shafts, half shafts most likly, housing braketry and I would doubt that would just bolt up either.
Let Rigman find you one and just bolt it in.

A little bit of both. I've got a couple E34 parts cars- but I found some BMW diffs at a local yard recently- the guy told me I could take an inventory of the diffs he had on the shelf sometime. I'm gonna try to get back by there this week.

OK Guys, here's what I found. Went to a local Import salvage yard- they have been really nice + easy to work with- they are even sponsoring one of my good friend's E30 race car.
Anyway- here's the list of what they have available:
(these are ALL E32/E34 6 cyl/530i diffs)
373 open
410 open
364 LSD (this is a 735i diff- but will work in an E34 with flange swap)
391 LSD
410 LSD
They also had 1 740i diff- it's a 293 Open.
Basically, I can sell these for $300 each for the LSD's and $200 each for the open diffs. (Shipping NOT included). This is about 1/2 of their normal selling price- they just want to clear out some shelf space.
Please PM or email me directly if you need details.
Thanks!!
Bret.

I was wondering if anyone here has done the 3.91lsd to 4.27lsd conversion on an auto 535i and their reactions. Is there a write-up on switching the diffs out on these cars? I have the '90 535i with lsd and assuming 3.91 ratio and am considering this swap for a 4.27lsd.
Any experiences would be welcome.
TIA

my indy quoted me approx 4 hours to do the swap.
What was the month of production for your 535i?
it makes a big difference cuz 1/2 way through the
year they changed the diff =\

Have not done the swap- but the wife's 535i auto has a 4.27 LSD in it, it really likes to accelerate from a stop- but it seems like you're moving an awful lot of weight.
Make sure you have a 391 before you invest in a new diff.......Depending on MFG date, you might already have a 427...
