I have absolutely no idea what it could be and was hoping that one of the experts in E34's here could help me out!
Driving along, and suddenly, for no aparent reason, headlights go off. (Can happen on a smooth straight stretch of freeway, or sometimes even when parked at traffic lights.
Then after as little as 10 seconds (or as much as 30 mins) they spontaniously come back on again. Throughout this whole time, NO other lights are affected - the tail-lights, fogs and high-beams all continue to work as normal. The OBC does not recognise that they have gone out either.
Interestingly, fiddling (ie. switching it on and off) with the fog light switch and the high-beam switch sometimes makes them come on again, but not always.
Has been happening for a while intermittently, but is getting a little more frequent.
Has anyone had a problem like this before, or even heard of it?
It has to be a part of the electrical system that's in common between fogs, high beams and low beams (otherwise fiddling with the fog switch wouldn't help), but I have no idea what it could be.
So - If anyone knows what's going on i'd love to hear, or alternatively, if anyone could email me a copy of the wiring diagram for a 1989 E34 535iS that would help too...
