Just bought my 89 525i, love it. My only real problem is a hard start. I have to restart maybe 2, 3 and somtimes 4 times before it will catch. Going to do a tune up on it with wires, cap/rotor and maybe new coil. Started thinking about replacing the starter. Any ideas? New to this forum, I think it is a great site! :D

Was it turning engine over normally or slow-like... BMW doesn't like to start with weak battery.

it was turning over normal, just have to hold it for about 4 or 5 seconds, will take a look at the battery.
May be a dirty ICV and/or throttle body? Lots of carb cleaner helped my m20's cold start problem. Gotta remove the idle control valve and spray it till it's clean.
Good luck
