What type of fluid does my p/s res. take?

I have a 95 540 and I was going to change/replace the power steering fluid (at least in the res.). When I went to check the service manual, it says it will either take ps fluid or auto trans fluid and it will tell me which type it needs on the res. Unfortunately, mine tells me nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated.

does the reservoir lid have a 1" round screw knob that holds the lid down? If so, the type of fluid recommended is printed on that knob. I think it would be Pentosin 11.1 - not to be mixed with ATF's.

chf 11 i think, im too lazy to go out to the garage. It should say right on the cap. dont confuse it to the cap close to the steering unit as thats the brake stuff..or vice versa.

BMA or any import supply house should carry it.
