CEL Light after Intake install

Guys,
Just put a open cone air filter kit on my 94 540. The problem is that after driving it hard the CEL light comes on and then it will barley idle. I have tried resetting the light, it only holds the problem till I start stepping on it again. Any ideas? THX

I dont think its a K&N. It looks like some kind of K&N knock off filter though. Did not see any oil on it. Can those type of filters cause problems on these cars?

Why spend money on aftermarket 'fancy' air filters, the original ones on the E34 are hardly restrictive at all and fitting anything less restrictive just allows more junk to get into your engine.

I dont do stomp tests anymore cause it still runs
