Hello:
Anyone out there who can tell me how the front disc brake sensor works on my 525i?
Thanks,
Richard

It's basically a loop of wire. The end of the loop is in the brake pad. When the pad wears down to the loop, the loop breaks, and continuity is lost in the wire. The check control module recognises there is no continuity in the wire, and displays the "BRAKE LININGS" message.

Hello Dan:
We visited your beautiful country in March and had a great time in Auckland and Queenstown.
Thanks for the information.

Richard

sometimes even if the old sensor hasnt worn through it can be damaged by heat and shock, always replace them with new. If you still get the warning then it could be where the wires go through the fenderwell or anywhere else that the wires could rub.
