The gear indicator display on the dashboard went out on my way to work this morning. If you look closely, it still reflects any gear change, but just doesn't light up. Any ideas? Is it an easy fix or too much of a pain in the ass to worry about?
Thanks,
Mark

Warning you absolutely must disconnect the battery first or you will trip the airbag warning light on the dash , then you'll have to have someone reset it.
Even if other ill informed people convince you not to remove the steering wheel , you still much disconnect the battery
Dash bulb change. (http://www.bimmernut.com/%7Ebillr/images/airBagAndBulbs_files/airBagAndBulbs.html)

Man, what a pain in the rear. Thanks for the procedure. I'll keep it for when I'm feeling brave enought to give it a shot. I've got headlights and fog lights to do this weekend......should be a challenge as well.

There is a bulb that lights up the LCD Display. There are also 2 bulbs which illuminate the larger LCD display to the left of the gear indicator. My LCD was getting light on the rightside and I thought it was the LCD display (Very expensive part).

I was just handling this same problem on my car today and was searching the site. Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd recycle an old one. LOL!!!!
