O2 conspiracy?

my 530 has 2 sensors (?), I found one part # on the ETK but cant find the other.

birth date 6/93 530I

only part # is 11781747005 (L-360mm) probably wrong

also are there compatable less expensive replacements?

as far as i know they were never replaced.

any help?

19 is what 18 plugs into. you don't need that . I did mine this summer, two of the same. There was some talk on here of a universal 02 sensor for like $50 each. You need to cut the wire off your old sensor and splice the new o2 sensor's wires to the old o2 sensor connector. I didn't have balls or patience to try it. On mine the plugs went into the side of the pipe not into the cat

I did the cut n splice routine. It is a pain, but I'd do it again. Removing the old sensor was easy though. Snip off as close to old sensor, and use an open end wrench to remove.The trick is using a good soldering iron and laying out the splices so they are not next to each other. I did seal the joint with shrink wrap then protected the entire bundle with the heat shield tubing that came with the kit. So far so good.

i think you can get the ones you have to adapt for around $50 or $60 dollars.

this forum seems to lean towards never cutting corners, however. go with the OE style, imo

13231 is what world pac lists (our supplyer) $75.24 is our cost and $164 is list if that helps in your search for how low can they go, the stainless steel that the wires are made from is tricky to solder and get a good joint

It is not cheaping out... it is that they charge $50 extra for a wiring harness. All my cars are spliced. Some I did it, but my BMW is definitely spliced but charged full price my a garage I no longer use.

O2 is pretty much all the same... just that proprietary harness cost you that extra $50. In our case, it is extra $30 between generic non-Bosch and the OEM style that I told you for $82 each. Price for generic Bosch is $10 more than OEM for whatever reason...

Re. #19, it looks like a thermal sensor (RTD) that signals a too high CAT outlet temp: some markets require them, like Japan, etc. Probably not on any cars here unless a 'euro' import.
O2 sensors, Bosch included, can be found at great prices on ebay (search 'sensors, O2'): I found NIB Bosch 3 and 4 wire types for <$20: Follow the colour code, and splice on to your old connector if req'd - their output chacteristics are identical. (there is a new generation with different output voltages for the latest cars IIRC, but they are advertised differently.)

101.99, I use only the oem harness on all the cars i work on including my own. I wouldn't dream of using the splice together sensor, since these are devices that actually generate voltage and its measured in millivolts, the slightest bit of corrosion at the connection where you joint the universal with the wiring harness will have an affect on the readings that the dme sees. That and the fact that frequently alot of the corrosion is at the socket connector and a new harness won't have that problem. This is one of those areas where it doesn't pay to cheapie out...

yeah, my rodeo gets oil on the connector, and it begins to send a 'slow output' signal (or whatever its called).

spend the extra and get the OE style

only get it once in a blue moon and I think if they were shot I would get the code more often. They probably do have 164,xxx miles on them though. Do you thing the newer ones would be better than the '93 models?
