tranny fluid change

Hi, new to BMW post, getting my first bimmer today, 540i/a...not too many six speeds available for the price, 7500 USD but here is my question. Is there a special tranny fluid with an expensive price that my mechanic has told me about to warrent a 400 dollar tranny service? I think that I could be getting hosed :( , I haven't had him do it yet but it seems a little out of whack.

do a search for 540 trans fluid and there will be a ton of info on it at this site. I have read that it goes anywhere from 12-23 bux a quart. DO not use anything other than the recommended or the clutches could de-laminate and you will really be dumping some cash on a rebuild.

thanks for the info to both of you guys, under 25 bux doesn't sound to bad....he was saying something to the tune of 135 per quart or gallon....my mind went a little hazy after the number he threw at me....how often shoudl it be changed? btw i'll throw a pic up when i get the car. :p
