View Full Version : Please take a look at invoice...
hey all, we took my car to the shop to get the brakes changed, an oil leak fixed, get and alignment done, the the guy called my mom today saying the car needs alot of work done....over $3000 of work done...
i just couldnt believe it!! heres the invoice, as you can see my mom told them just to get the most important stuff out of the way first,
Im wondering, are these prices over the top?? I can always buy on the net and they will install.

I paid about $300 for parts and labor on all 4 brakes. I get most of my parts from BMA and the guy charged me only $75 labor total. He was moonlighting. Can't say too much about the rest of the work but it's definitely a lot of $$$.

$85 is pretty much the low side of the norm these days. Local BMW dealer is at $105 and up for labor.
im not so much worried about the labor cost, its more for the parts, they seem to expensive, example does an oil pan gasket cost $450!! where can i got to see the prices for these items?

Thats why most of us are here, we work on our own cars. People that pay for that kind of work are usually too busy making millions of dollars and dont worry about costs. If you dont want to have to pay then get a new car or a lease car.

What stuck out to me was the $145 for IC lights. Those lights usually cost about $5-$6 a piece. Find you an Independent dealer to take your car to. Here in New Orleans, my BMW specialists charge $60-$65 for labor and gets the parts at wholesale prices.

I think that's the labor of going into the dash, dunno. What got me good is the parts cost he's charging. Brake pads, $90/pair? Rotors, $90/each?? I think the pads cost $30-35 from BMA, and the rotors are MAYBE $30 each? So he paid $270 for that stuff, should have been <$100. 2.4 hours of labor at $85 too... wow. I wish I could get paid $200 to take 2.4 hrs for a brake job... :D

The cost of labor is included in all those prices. My mechanic does the same thing.
For example, 1 - 1 1/2 hours (don't know what they have in there computer) of labor to remove, replace bulbs, and install IC = $85-$127. Plus the price of the bulbs. $147 easily.
Replacing the bulbs is an easy DIY project.

You can look up BMW part numbers, part wholesale prices, and part's diagrams at: www.realoem.com/bmw ... just type in the last 7 digits of your VIN...or look up generically by clicking the appropriate buttons.
And you can check out the BMW Online Vendor List for buying parts, too...click here for the BMW Online Vendor List: http://home.earthlink.net/~hainesinutah/bmwvendors/
