I recently got a '95 525i and want to replace the stock cassette deck with a CD player. I don't know a whole lot about stereos, so I'm having trouble trying to figure out just what I need for the installation.
A couple sites say that all you need is a wire adapter to connect the new receiver to the BMW wiring. Talking to other people though, they say I'll also need a step-down converter to reduce the ~50W output most receivers have to whatever it is the BMW amp expects.
Any advice? I really just want to be able to play CDs and MP3 CDs, but don't want to upgrade the whole system. It makes sense that I would need the power converter so as not to blow the amp or overheat, but I haven't heard anything about that on this forum or other BMW sites........
