odd tranny problem.

Second gear very hard to get into the first time after cold start. first randomly pops out like once or twice a month. stock parts, 88k miles on the e34 95 540i 6 speed. hasnt been driven too hard, mostly babied.... ideas? could it be as simple as MTL? how do i change tranny fluid (pics please)

2nd gear always goes 1st i think

i just won't stay in. mech. says it is the linkage inside the gearbox.
she only has 70,000 miles on it.

how much does your mech say it costs to fix it tim?

he did say it was labor intensive & they would need to dis-assemble most of the gear box to fix it. sucks for her with highway traveling. the rav4 already needs to rev to high for my taste just to move.

Yeah, on a lot of other cars this could be an issue with the shift fork inside the tranny. I'd make sure the engine and tranny mounts and all shifter linkage is in really good shape first, though. Lot cheaper than tearing down that tranny.
