Hey guys, my inspection is due and part of it is the atf change.
I can not find the Dexron II anywhere, but I am assuming that Dexron III is what I use because Dexron II is no-more.
Is Dexron III what I need to use now? is it basically II with added enhancements / higher standards?
Thanks a bunch guys.
edit: just out of curiosity, where can I find the differential oil? What weight do I use for that thing?

I use Mobil One 75w-90 synthetic gear oil in the differential. It can be found at any auto parts store, like Autozone, or any auto parts section of a large dept. store.

thanks.
I finally found the car's instruction book - but noticed that it said Hypoid gear oil... the only "hypoid" oil I've found in 75w90 is $155.00 for 32 oz. While all the synthetics are about $6 / qt. Wtf is the deal with that!? :confused
Does it have to be "hypoid" ?

maybe that stuff have diamond dust in it??? Most enthusiasts on this forum run either conventional...likely in the minority...diff lube or either Redline, Amsoil or Mobil 1 synthetic differential fluid which also works great for LSD rear ends.. I like Mobil 1 personally but the other two are excellent if not better.
And as Dick said, run Dextron III in your trans if you were spec'ed for Dextron II. III didn't exist when these cars were manufactured.

Hey guys on my zf tranny, can I just refill it through the dipstick hole or do I have to pump the fluid through the filler hole?
Thanks a bunch :)

dexron III is the replacement for dexron II so the III is better and yes you fill through the dip stick
Remember that if you have a limited slip differential (LSD), it has a S on the differential tag, you might need fluid designated for LSD, it has some kind of additive in it. I use the synthetic diff fluid.

the story is about the auto gerbox init the dif was thrown in later so for the gearbox use atf III and for the dif use what the book says with a touch of molly slip it smoothes the transaction out so lets not confuse the gearbox with the diff eh

LSD takes the thicker gear lube, 85w140? Think thats the numbers.
