Hello,
I've got a 1989 535i which has driven wonderfully over the years. Two weeks ago, I got a flurry of errors from the OBC. It looked like an electrical problem. Then, I got a coolant temp error, and the engine overheated. Towed it to the dealer, who replaced a coolant hose that had failed.
So it's driving fine now; however, I get an occasional Check Engine light. Yesterday, in particular... Anytime I took my foot off the gas, the light came on. As soon as my foot touched the accelerator, it went dark.
Using the "five stomps" method, I got a 1233 error code, which points to the Throttle Position sensor. Interestingly, this is the "wide open" sensor. I haven't stomped on the gas except to get the error code!
Does this make any sense? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Norman
