I had my brake sensor come on two weeks ago. I changed the brakes but the message is still on. How do I get it to turn off. Also I'm in need of a new exhaust system can anyone make a recommendation. I think I need the cat converter also.

The brake sensor is a wireloop that wears through and creates a broken circuit to let you know that the pads are about gone - you'd have to replace the sensor.
I know on my Roadster, I had to replace the sensor and hold the key in the ACC position (position 2) for about 30 seconds for it to reset the indicator - I don't know if that is required on the 5's though.
Can't help on the exhaust - sorry.

never re use the old sensors, the sensor could have a broken link inside of it even though it loos fine. Spend the $2 and replace both front and back. If that doesnt fix the problem than you have a broken connection in the wiring, probably right by the wheel well where it goes through.

most likely it's a bad sensor, that car doesn't need to be reset like the 96 and up bimmers ("new" airbag reset will reset the brake warning in them) i think ether www.bmpd.com and or www.bavauto.com sell aftermarket cats that bolt up stock for a decent deal, shop around you may find better but that's a place to start

here are about 50 (http://home.earthlink.net/~hainesinutah/bmwvendors/)
this one is also said to be competitive (http://www.performance-curve.com/)
cat converter sale (http://www.performance-curve.com/)
As a temporary fix, you can strip the old brake sensor wires & twist them together to get rid of the message. The sensors are on the inner pads on the left-front & right-rear wheels.
Eberspaecher makes a good OEM replacement muffler, check the various on-line vendors that Shogun listed. Avoid Bosal & Ansa, they rust out prematurely.
Bill R. posted an exerpt from the TIS awhile back about the test port pressure for diagnosing the cat, I think a healthy backpressure upstream of the cat is generically something like 1.5 psi or less. M30 cats last a long time, they rarely need replacing. I have 167k on mine & just passed emissions last week with very low numbers, with only a 10 or 15 minute warm-up drive, with an EAT chip, 19 lb/hr Mustang injectors, & a 3.5 bar FPR.
