I ran across a local ad for:

'94 840ci Coupe. VERY RARE EXOTIC, just 81k miles. $17600. Call for website.

I'm relatively sure this is the Nikasil block and don't have any history on it, but the car brings back some memories.

When my oldest son was having a "Fathers day" at his elementary school, I tooled into the BMW dealership with the 500SEL. We had bought it from a realitor for a very low price and it looked much nicer than it booked. So, I checked out an 8 coupe to take for a test drive, it had 31k miles on it and ran like a scalded cat. Zoomed into the parking lot at the school and the kids just wowed. As I recall, that coupe was priced in the high $30k range. Hard to believe they would still really be worth $17k, especially with those miles. I know they're low for a daily driver, but nobody could run that car at anything other than MAXED OUT.

I think I might bite and go look anyway..... :p

i just got done 5 speeding a 94 325i saturday (while i was replacing the roasted motor) it was a little bit of a pain but the problems were easy enough to solve (clutch switch for cruise, reverse lights and squashing the tranny error code)

5spd swap or ban!

Sweet, is it an M62 (4.4L) or M60 (4.0L)...I thought an 840Ci was a M62, which would have been Alusil, but being a 1994 seems to indicate 840i and the Nakasil M60.

Are you sure the car is an 840Ci?

I don't think any 840's ever had a manual tranny, but I'd sure take on if it was...they're a pretty sweet car...I'd prefer 840 and 6-speed over the 850's M70 engine....although I'd take an 850CSi's S70!

Cheers,
Duey

I bought my car frmo there, and we got my mom's E39 528iA from that place too, they have great quality cars.

there were no 840 6-speeds in the states, not sure about overseas though.

wouldn't exactly call them a rocket....Strange how the cosmoline is only discolored where the engine cover doesn't cover it.... Makes me think it was some kind of detailing garbage rather than cosmoline..http://www.bimmernut.com/~billr/images/850ivalvecovers.jpg

far as which cars i would buy.... :) In fact my wife really really likes this
Silver 850 that i work on, thats in pretty good shape and has around 92k miles..
If he ever wants to sell it for a reasonable price I would think real hard about it..
The only things that scare me are the prices of body parts, seat components, interior trim etc... the motor and drive train isn't too terribly expensive to own.

would you ever consider buying one? timeless lines....
