Thanks to a reference from Phil Sanderson, I'll be picking up a new set (4) of Falken 225/50 R16's fully fitted for AUD$500. A great deal and a lot less than the Kuhmo's that I had been quoted.
A few comments from this board reminded me of a bad experience with Kuhmo's several years ago. The compound was quite soft which meant great road holding, but also meant faster tyre wear and also flat spots on the tyres when parked for a few ays.
If you are in Sydney, try AGR tyres on Carlingfor road in Sefton. I've left my rims to have the kerb rash machined and will pick up in a week all new and ready to go.
I'll let you know how the new tyres perform.
