I threw my timming belt on my 90 525i m20 engine. I just got back from the shop where I my saw my head with a piece broke off one of the cam bearings. My machanic tells me I need a new or rebuilt head. He says he can get a rebuilt one for around $1500 and about $1500 labor we rangled about the price and I got him down to $2600 for the job. He also told me he could get a used engine for $800 and labor and everything for less money. The used engine is suppose to have 97k miles. My E34 ran perfect before the belt problem and has only 106k now. Is this a fair price or should I go with the used engine? Also what is done to a head when it is rebuilt? My guy has a small shop that specializes in BWM's and Jags so I trust his work. I love my E34 and want to keep it for a long time.
