Turn signal fix?

Can anyone help me? I have an 89 535. I had the steering wheel off and I must have bumped the turn signal lever. So when I put the wheel back on the lever was in the up position. Now my turn signals won't shut off when I go around a turn. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

To add to this post if the turn signal is turned on to the left or right then the white tab seen sticks out and the wheel breaks it off when you install. When the signal is in the center position then that white tab retracts out of the way.
