Seals that go around the door handles are cracked, weathered, and look nasty. Where to find new ones? I tried BMA, but couldnt' find in the catalog.

According to the seller (and since it was on ebay you know it's true), BMW will make you replace the entire handle thing. But his auction was for the seals only and thus saves you 100 Billion Dollars. I tried to locate the auction, couldn't find it. Sry

Tis true, you get outer portion of the door handle (the surround, if you will) and the rubber backing. They are a PITA to replace and would reccomend making it a two person job (one to pull the hook and latch it into place, another to squeeze the ever-loving life out of it to get it to catch).

I saw an auction for the seals on ebay (but the dude was in indonesia). 10 bux for a pair. However, rubber is something that needs to be manufactured carefully. If not, the seal will crack within a year if it hasn't bee UV treated, etc... Still looking for the right answer.

i bought some on ebay.. here's a link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7951262414&category=33642

they are easy to replace if you know how.. you just have to be careful that you don't drop the handle on the ground ( i dropped mine and had to get it re-painted.. doh)

anyway feel free to msg me if you want to know how to change em

cheers

Sold together and are quite expensive from dealers (Never tried BMA though).

32 bux isnt that bad at all, how much for a set of door handles from the dealer?

The guy is shipping from Malaysia, not far from Indonesia ;-).
But in any case I have already heard that this seller (Kenneth Woo)seems to be trustfull, know of some people who bought from him and were satisfied.

Probably these gaskets are made anyway there in Malaysia for BMW.

Edit: as we have some members here from Malaysia: is there a possibility that you can find out the source locally and sell to the members directly without a middle man on Ebay?

I talked to Patrick at BMA about this last week. As with most little e34 parts, they're not listed in their online catalog -- you've got to call them.

Patrick only sells the seal with the door handle TRIM. Not that expensive...I think it was less than $20/side.

I had to replace one recently due to a caveman trying to break into the car. A quick phoe call to BMW, and in stock. The outer part of the surround and the rubber seal come together and it was only about $10. To fit, remove the black plug inside the trailing door edge (in line with the handle) and shining a torch in the hole you will see the latch which needs to slide toward (I think!) you to release the old surround. Once the old one is out place the new surround in place and push the slider the other way to grip the surround. I used a vice grip to grip a right angle hook which I used to reach into the whole to move the slider, carefull not to drop it in there!

Hey Jeff - there's a guy selling just the rubbers on eBay right now. Has like...10 sets or something...~$22/set. I saw them when hunting around for door seals (no dice).

Like a said in a previous post, I bought the eBay seals from Malasia (I think). Got them installed this morning. Everything seems fine. Saved some money not having to buy the trim piece as well. The installation seemed to go a little better after they softened inside the car a little and with another set of hands pushing the trim firmly into place as I slid the lever inside the door back out to secure the trim. A good solid hook tool would help in pulling that lever back.

But you can get the cover including the seal on eBay for $10 per door- that's only a bit more. (Woo charges a heap for frieght as these come in a C5 envelope)

The covers are brand new. :) GP

whk@www.com is Kenneth Woo. Got my door handle seals in last week - perfect fit. I'd be surprised if they weren't made by the OE manufacturer. The old seals literally disentegrated when I pulled them off. :)

THe set I got weren't moulded that well (in the edges they were a bit mangled). I don;t think it was a one-off. I told Woo, but he wasn't interested.

In Australia the UV kills bad rubber very quickly. I don't hold out much hope for the set I got. Anything is better than the old ones though, I'm sure happy I got em!

Yeah the email Mobius gave was the same one I got. Overall I'm pretty happy with the seals.

I ordered meanwhile more than 20 sets each 4pieces from Mr. Woo for the members of our E32 Club here. Everybody is happy with the product and I have to order at least 20 sets= 80 pieces more, as we had a meeting BBQ at the seaside yesterday and some people showed the sealings and demonstrated how easy to istall them.
Takes 5 minutes to install them.

Hi shogun,
The 'how to' link appears to have expired. Are you able to post it again please.

Site is presently under routine maintenance. Try later again. Anyway, very easy, just remove the rubber plug at the side of the door (if it is still there anyway, usllay it is gone), use a flashlight to see inside. Use a wrench or a hook and push the slider forward and backwards for opening and closing. Here is the slider shown:
http://shrubbery.student.utwente.nl/johan/doorlock_microswitch/slider.jpg
"Fold" the cover outside away from the door on the top first, then you can get it off. At the bottom there are 2 guide pieces or so.

As it is colder now, it is easier to install the new ones when you heat them up a bit so that the rubber is more flexible. Hot water (of course not too hot) or place in a warm room. Then it fits perfect.
Here some pics from my auction which ends today, you can see how they look

I bought a set for my car when I did the paint job, it's duplicate with a plastic cover, I dumped the plastic covers and used the seals ... cost 2$ each that's 8$ for the 4 doors.
