535i Ignition Key Won't Turn

I have a 1989 535i and when I put the key into the ignition to start the car the key will only turn to the first position and will not continue turning to the start position. I have giggled the steering wheel to make sure it's not locked as well as made sure the car is in park. Nothing seems to work. I am at a lost as this is my first bimmer which I bought from a private owner. Unfortunately, I do not have the owner's manual so this is all very foreign to me. All suggestions are helpful!

Replace the lock cylinder?

Call BMA - have Patrick hook you up.

And get a bentley manual. The owner's manual is only good for discovering that there are things built into your car that you didn't know about when you bought it -- it's also available online on various web sites.

keep messing with it, mine did that a year ago, of course real far from home. i kept working it and it finally worked, no problems since. if that dont do it it could be the cylinder or some sort of linkages connected to it.

Use a bit of graphite powder on key.
Also make sure that you stick in the key really down to the bottom.
