I'm familiar with some BMWs but not the 1999 E46 2.5 M52 that son (in Australia btw) recently purchased. Can someone assist with the following please?

Clunk in front. I believe it was diagnosed by dealer as control arm and bushing on one side. I also understand the design of the arm's changed so he has to replace both sides. Cost $$$

Question: If design has changed, has BMW got a record of reimbursing the cost when the old one goes?

what sounds like an idler or tensioner failed the other day, mangling belt(s?). Is there a history of these going? I recall on my e34 M50TU, the tensioner is replaced as part of Inspection II. Is it same for this E46?
