I crossed the 175,000 mile mark last night on the way home from work and 55,000 of those are my miles since I bought the car three years ago. Kept wondering how many more miles I could get if I keep up the maintenance and take care of it. I have no immediate plans to replace this car at all since that would be just pissing money away when this one drives so well! Does anyone have an idea of what the high mileage mark is for our cars?

No idea what the 'mark' is for our vehicles, but my 525im will break 500,000km (310,000 miles) within a week of busting it out of storage this spring. I'm planning on swapping out the block, and have done the head, but if you can find the parts it needn't be a huge investment (especially when its garaged all winter and you love to tinker).
You've just broken it in, now you can exceed 3000 rpm :)
Happy driving.

Ive got about 187k on my 535i, and 215k on my wife's 300E. They just don't make cars like these anymore! :D

the car itself can last indefinetly, they say to replace the engine after 300k.

Its similar to the broom life record ... it lasted 26 years, and amazingly it only had 42 new heads and 27 new handles !

Nikasil replaced at 96k, so really only 130k on the lower end!
