Daughter rang to say the car broke down and wouldn't start again. It was overheating. Road service guy said it had blown a head gasket and needed to be towed. I had it towed to home because I wasn't feeling like spending any more money on it after spending $3000 on it last September (brakes, cam belt and bearing, tuneup, rego etc, etc, etc).
When it was delivered there was oil all over the engine bay. Daughter had removed to coolent reservoir cap and what spewed forth was a mixture of oil and water - lots of oil. So obviously the head is cracked, the radiator is full of oil and the engine is now a piece of crap. Oh well, it has got 295,000 km on it and it is 22 years old this year, but it still looks good...
...so I rang my wrecker (Sydney Wide European Autos in Sydney, Aus) and I can get a used replacement (comlete) engine for $950AUS plus labour to fit with 6 months Warranty, so it looks like that will be what i'll do.
regards
Phil
