The weather broke for a couple of days and the ///M5 stretched it's legs for the first time in a while.

Sport seats provide the support and are fairly comfortable. They help to keep you planted when accelerating through a curve. It was a fun run today, man this thing is wicked fast! It's easy to forget after not driving it for a while. One eye on the road and one on the tach 'cause it'll be at redline in the blink of an eye.

Enjoy!

i am impressed that the dove gray seats don't have that nasty dingy look that they usually get after 14 years of asses sliding around on them

What steering wheel do you have in there? Perhaps I could find one off eBay without airbag :) Any modifications needed to fit?

The steering wheel came from an E36 M3. The tri-colored ///M stitching, thumb sets, and slightly smaller diameter makes it look like it belongs inside the ///M5 cockpit.

You might be able to find one at a salvage yard, try www.car-parts.com and do a search for 95-97 E36 M3. It will not include the airbag (I reused mine old one) but you might have to transfer some parts from your old wheel, like the slip ring or contact ring.

It was an easy upgrade for about $100, (just don't forget to disconnect the battery when removing the airbag).

Good luck,

Jr

Thanks for the kind words Rocky, yes it does get driven and it's addictive too. It's not a perfect example, not too many of them left. I have to leave an obvious smudge or fingerprint somewhere or Uncle Phil won't have anything to pick on.. ;) Last year at our E34 picnic in Chicago, he dug open the spare tire well so he could find some dust.... :p

At last years local Porsche/BMW Show 'n Shine she brought home "Peoples Choice" and "Best BMW" awards.

It's not a daily driver, but it sure is fun when you do get the chance to take it out for a few laps.

Very nice. Don't like the steering wheel though, looks like it belongs in a bus  sorry! I think only the US cars had those things, bigger airbag due to low seatbelt usage? My 540i certainly has a nicer wheel with much smaller centre and it's standard for UK cars.

PS I thought the M5 was a 6-speed? Or did they change during production?

Paul.

Little different across the pond, thanks to our safety advocates, we're blessed with "bus" type steering wheels and extremely explosive devices in front of our faces while we drive. While they have saved countless lives here in the US, you're right, it doesn't do much for the asthetics of the wheel. I believe there is a smaller air-bag version available, but it is very expensive.

I believe the 6 speed didn't come along until '93, (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the European versions might have been sooner, they always get more HP and performance goodies that the US doesn't, such as, the way cooler steering wheels.
