use about 80 lbs of force pulling directly up.
I think powering it involves rigging the power up to another source - I'm pretty sure Bruno's site has the procedure.
Ok, time for another newbie question.
How do I remove the shift knob (manual transmission)?
I've tried pulling it but I'm afraid of damaging the shifter.
It's an illuminated knob so I'm trying to figure out where to
get the power from. It came with a wiring harness, but where
do I connect it? Maybe the interior light dimmer?

Thanks, I got it. The wiring harness plugged right
into the dimmer switch, easiest install ever.
...if the height of the shifter was lowered after this install or was it just as high as before. This is the only big beef I have about my 1992 535i. So you are saying that the wiring is already in place for a lighted shifter then? Was it all under the console?

No, the wiring was not already in place. But if you look at the picture you can see the wiring that came with the knob. You just plug it between the interior light dimmer (beside the headlight switch) and the wire that goes into it. Then run the cable inside the dash to the shifter.
Looks like a classy mod. Can I ask how much you got it for and was that the lowest price you could find?...or did you (gasp..) go to the dealer?Originally Posted by Tcdoe
Yeah, it goes really well with the black leather interior.Originally Posted by Astroboy

It was the cheapest illuminated original bmw knob I could find (in europe). I didn't ask the dealer but I'm guessing it would've been at least twice as much.
Great shift stick ! Really like it ! If I buy my e34, I'll buy one like that, or one of the others the guy on ebay sells ! As I'm in Belgium and he's in Germany, it will even be here really fast, and with no possible custom problem

I recommend both the product and the seller (http://www.sanituning-tauberfranken.de). The knob looks very nice at night. Here's the one that I had before this one:Originally Posted by snoop
That one was nice too, but the chrome was a bit too much for my interior. Now the interior has more black leather than your average s&m dungeon.
Anyway, I ordered it on Sunday (the guy even responded to my questions on Sunday, wow) and it arrived here in Finland on Thursday.
Yes, Sanituning has a lot of parts for the E34 and the E32. Especially chrome parts, like door pins, door handles, chrome rings for the dash, the center console, the trans shift area and so on.
It is always worth a look into that site.
