They are great cars, just like anything else they also have their issues. Rear suspension, intake gasksets, radiators, aux cooling pumps, abs modules, intrument panels - all kinds of fun stuff.

Frankly (and I know I'm going to get flamed for this), I think the E34 looks better than the E38.

Don't get me wrong, the E38 is a very attractive car. But there's something a little too...*old people* about them when I compare the lines to the E34. Maybe it's an association I've made between what I think of as the typical E38 owner and the car.

Today, I saw an Oxford Green ~ 97 740iL parked a few spots away from Fritz in a lot, and that's just the impression that hit me.

Now, I know that, with Mpars and body colored skirts, the sexiness factor goes out the window, but I'm just saying -- IMHO, the car looks much more...geriatric...than the E34 does.

If you consider the proportions and the lines on the E34, everything is as close to perfection as, in my mind/TMK, a designer has yet achieved. Notice how proportionate the front end of the car is to the middle body and rear. The hood length is JUST right. The E38 maintains the same stance, but the rear doors seem a little too long for my liking, especially on the iL's. So, the proportions are a little off for me. Also, it's a much bigger car, which I can't really appreciate.

Just my .02c. I'm sure the E28 guys have similar qualms about the E34 But, none of this is to say that I wouldn't own one, I just prefer the E34 as of yet.

    Best, whit

E38's are great, I have been wanting one of these for a long time and finally went and test drove a couple. The car is great with lots of hp, but a little pricey. Check www.e38.org there are a lot of info on there. My personal preference would be 1999 and up, preferably an '01.

    Cheers
