E34 with E39 I-Bus?

The I-Bus system for the E39 seems to have quite a following. There are forums where folks hack the bus and share circuits and ideas for attaching all sorts of nifty devices. Unfortunately, the E34 uses an older bus predating the I-Bus. I'd be curious to know if anyone bothered retrofiting some E39 guts into an E34 and what kind of issues they ran into...

not possible, as nothing would interface with the E34s systems so would be independant and therefore useless. especially as most people want it so the dash can display ipod track names and the dash doesnt work on an ibus

There is no communications 'bus' as such on the E34
