    Default 540i to 525i

    Would the E34 4l v8 fit in the E34 525i?

Sure it will fit. It's a pain in the ass to swap all that though. whole driveline has to be changed. not to mention the electronics, harnesses and whatnot.

If you really want an E34 4.0 litre V8 you're far better off buying a 540, both in terms of cost and PITA factor.

If your gonna do a swap, might as well make it the 4.4 litre V8 from the E39.

OBDII makes that an even harder proposition.

But since you'd be replacing the entire driveline, engine bay brake components, and electrics anyway, might as well do the body harness (and try to modify the E39 harness to work with preexisting components in the E34) and steering column while you're at it, right? Then there's lock cylinders and other antitheft stuff to dispatch. A few years and maybe 20 or 30g later, the car might actually start

Thanks for all of your replies.

I found a 4l for about $3000 w/ 87000 mi on it. I figured it would be hard to find a 540 w/ that little mileage for what the conversion would cost. But I am so in love with my 525 that I might just sell my wife's Camry, give her the 525 and find a 540 to love even more.

Sounds like a plan. You and Brodee can have a contest to see who can give their wife the best looking e34.

If and when there is another virtual car show, best wife car has to be a category.
