Default Car Fuel Saver Magnetic With Neodymium Magnets

There is a hype going on all over the world with these magnets. Not only for fuel saving, water softening, for sports etc.
I wonder if that really helps and if anyone here has real long time experience on that.
One example of the offered magnet here.

Even my wife bought one for our water supply and she swears that the water is softer and the water 'molecules' are smaller and it is for example easier to clean something.
I ,as a non believer in magic things see no difference or maybe I am not sensitive enough.
Anyway, let's concentrate on fuel saving.
Anyone tried it and does it work?

    Default Violates Physics!!

Put a magnet on a permable (i.e., steel or other metal with iron in it) pipe and 99% of the field flows through the metal of the pipe - it doesn't flow into the interior! Try it: put a magnet on one side of a steel plate and sprinkle some iron filings on the other side. A few will stick, but the field is negligable, especially for the thickness you'd find in household pipes.

Might work on a plastic pipe a little better, but the field closes in on itself in as short a path as allowable, and has no motivation to create a strong magnetic field inside the cavity of the pipe. Poppycock I say!
