I bought a 97 540i about three weeks ago. 145000 miles. Payed 8000. It had some issues, but most are mixed now. what is the max you would have payed? they wanted 9000
Things i had to fix right off the bat.
PCV plate, replaced the intake manifold gaskets at the same time.
Expansion tank. Have all the hoses for the front radiator lines(will do soon).
Right passenger visor. 30 bucks from a salvage yard and they even let me use their tool to put it in.
THINGS TO DO.
Locate an oil leak on the front of the engine. Not a big one but it is there. I noticed some seepage on the passenger side valve-cover near the center of the engine. Also, same location, upper timing cover, not to much but it is there. I have the valve-cover gaskets, I think i'll do the upper timing covers also. How often does the lower timing cover leak?
Replace front control arm bushing. I get some steering wobble. Disappears most of the time under braking. My BMW mechanic friend suggested the bushings. any thoughts?
Other little things like drivers side seat trim is broken. Commen i have heard.
Display has intermitant pixels. WIll probably just leave it for now. I may try the BMW NA fix, if they will good faith it. If not save and do the VDO repair.
Paint.....I have several little rock chips all over the hood. Anything you guys recommend?
I'll post a pic in a little bit.

Hey i have a few questions about the method of removing the passenger side valve cover. Did you have to move the ABS module to get it out? Anything else? How'd you like the drivers side?

I think that's a great deal.....I thought E39 525i was going for that price not a 540i. I thought I could get at least that much for my '94.....Guess not huh?
