Did you press it 5 times with in 5 seconds?
Hi all
I tried the test where you turn on the ignition and press accelerator 5 times to read fault codes but nothing happened.
My car is a 1991 525i M50
Does this not work on M50 cars? Is there another way of checking for fault codes?

US cars only by all accounts

Does your check engine light come on? Are you letting the pedal all the way up? Is there possibly a problem with your Wide open throttle switch? How 'bout the zero switch?

Bob, that is wrong. Why would it be US cars only anyway? I'm in Australia and i got it.
When mine didnt work i replaced the bulb in the instrument cluster. Has your "check engine" light been on recently? Maybe you should check that out
Really? It was only what I had read elsewhere on this forum.Originally Posted by romus

I often have trouble getting the stomp codes to display. Sometimes I have to try it four or five times. I've found that it seems to help if you have the fan in the off position when you turn the key as well as having any other electronic devices switched off. I've also had better luck not pressing the pedal down too quickly and making sure that I feel the click of the downshift button on each press.
