Default Ordering some pads....M Sport related question.

Getting ready to order some Axxis MetalMasters and am trying to figure out what model I need to tell the fellow, as I doubt he's going to have M Sports as an option. I've heard these cars have US M5 front brakes and regular 540i rear brakes, any truth to this? If so, can I just order '91 M5 front pads, and '94-95 540i pads for the rear?

If you guys could help me out, it would be most appreciated.

    Regards,
    -Trevor Ely

Default Trevor....run the last 7 of your vin at........

    www.realoem.com

You can use the parts catalog and find a part number.....if you find the rotor size to be 315x28 (you'll see this in the supplement column), then it's M5 pads, 302x28 will be 540 pads.

    Thanks a lot!

Yeah, totally forgot about the online ETK.

Turns out the fronts are M5 brakes, and can't really tell for sure, but I think the rears are just regular 540i size.

Alright, so the rotors all around seem to be the same as the US M5s after further inspection. Does this mean that M5 pads will definitely fit? There's no '///Ms' stamped on these calipers or anything is why i'm asking. Don't remember if my buddy's '91 M5 had a '///M' stamp or not, just remember my father's E36 M3 did.

Default No, the calipers won't have the M stamp...but

the rotor size should be marked on them e.g. 315x28 302x28 or 302x22

if the caliper and rotor is 315x28, then yes M5 pads will fit.

the rear brakes on any 540 and M5 are the same vented rotor and use the same pads
