Default Help needed with Camshaft seal installation.

Anyone know how to install the camshaft seal? (Once again, another problem from re-assembling someone else's disassembly work.)

Here is a picture of the seal and below it is the exploded diagram with the area of interest circled in red, however the camshaft seal location is not shown:

    Default Another pic...

Here is a picture I took before it was disassembled. All I can tell is that the camshaft seal goes somewhere you can't see it:

The cam seal sits(very firmly) in the upper timing cover, which is not pictured in the shot you have. Parts 11,13 & 14 get installed after the upper timing cover goes on. From your photo you need to install the cam sprocket, the chain, the upper timing cover then parts 11,13 and 14.

Thank you for the info, I was looking at the wrong pic for the part.

Tap it into the upper timing cover with a plastic hammer or other lightweight mallett and a socket. There is a special tool, but a (big) deep well socket will do the trick. There is a detent lip in the upper timing cover that retains the seal and prevents it from being driven through to the other side of the cover.

    best, whit
