    Default Auxillary Water Pump Relay

    Hello, I have a problem.

My fuse #9 keeps blowing, and it is driving me as I have already taken it to a mechanic and had the aux. water pump replaced which worked for two days until it blew again! (grrrr) So I was looking around this board and I saw some threads about removing the relay to get the pump to stop blowing the fuse. Well thats all great but my bentley manual only shows a 91-95 E34 having a Aux. Water Pump relay. Of course my car is a '90 (GRRRR!).

So I'm wondering where the aux water pump relay is on a '90 M30 engine, and I've included a picture since I am apparently mechanically retarded-

Could someone please point out which relay? Or is it in a different box?

    Thanks in advance.

Or perhaps how to bypass the aux water pump?

Default K50, the first orange besides the blues, ...

    2nd row, 4 of 5 position.

F9 also feeds Horn relay (K2 orange besides yellow), phone alert relay (K51 first blue below K2 in the picture), and compressor control relay (K19 inside LH kick panel).

Default The compressor is also on fuse 9 so if you disconnect the

aux. water pump and it still blows then look at the compressor clutch

ok so I removed the aux. water pump relay and replaced the fuse and still nothing, so I guess it is something with the compressor clutch. How would I check that?

Default Easiest way would be to unplug compressor connector, ..

this, of course, will not get rid of the fault if there is some wiring issue (damaged insulation) from the compressor relay to the dryer pressure switches, the switches themselves, or the wiring from them to the compressor clutch or the DME pin 40 (including DME internals).

Compressor clutch would be the first to blame though, so unplugging it would be the best bet.

Debugging faulted circuits is normally done the opposite way (just to save fuses). I mean, unplug all the fed components and put them back one by one, it is not always good if systems are related (having one operative triggers a fault in another), but at least is something. F9 feed 4 relays, I would remove them all, and put them back, one by one, with some time delay in between, to let the related devices work. Then the one blowing the fuse is the system to debug.

Default Its almost always an internal winding failure in the clutch

coil when the compressor is popping the fuse. I would make sure that the compressor itself is good still and hasn't siezed up or scattered parts internally and then check the clutch itself, when the clutch coil burns up by shorting to ground then usually there will black goop dripping out on the bottom of the clutch, thats sometimes the varnish that the clutch windings are dipped in or a composite of some kind that the windings are filled with the keep them from vibrating against each other.

Default Aux water pump relay removal - which relay?

mine is a e34 520i m50 model year 1993. my fuse box differs from a 535i looks like this instead:

can someone help me to locate the aux water pump relay
    - i want to unplug the relay as unplugging the aux water pump plug will expose the pins to corrosion in the humid tropics.

better yet where do i find the info for relays in all e34 variants of fuse boxes?
