I had a similar problem when I did a head gasket job on an older Honda Accord. 3 or 4 of the intake manifold nuts were impossible to R&R with the motor in car. This tool worked super, and saved so much time.
You won't be able to torque the nut. But i had no problems.
Some times you have to make do with what you have.....
I made this from a 12mm box wrench and a piece of heavy wire. The 'chute cord prevent it from being lost forever if dropped.
The two notches ground on the end is for tapping it with a dull chisel to loosen the nut on the stud. The wire can replace the string and be used to tighten the nut. There are couple ways to loosen or tighten it with the way I made it.
One of those magnets mounted on an telescoping antenna's is real handy to have too, to hold the nut as you hand tighten the nut , or for picking up dropped parts.

Thats fuking brilliant!
I never remove manifolds from cars when pulling a head unless I absolutely have to. I can't recall if the exhaust has to come off on the v8 or not, but if you can leave it on and still get the head off, do it that way. Its heavier but much easier to separate manifolds on the bench.
I do remember that you can leave the intake in the car, Just unbolt it and tip it up.
That is ****ing brilliant!!!

can you post some pics and procedure on the job.
I am rebuilding my e34 from the ground up. It will be a couple weeks before the engine is put together again. I am machining the heads, widening the exhaust ports, and thoroughly cleaning anything and everything. Replacing all rubber under the hood, as well as other things. I will post pics from where it’s at now through finished product when im finished. If I posted pics now you would throw up.Originally Posted by speeddemon
