What does this chip do? Comments, experiences?
Believe it goes for ~$200-250 so it's reasonable. Any alternatives.

there is NOT much information on these chips for the older BMWs, more info in the newer software downloads. The only info really pertaining to these are at from Dinan itself, which in my oppinion is kinda one sided. I would definetly want to try one after I get my chip if I still have transmission issues but other than that I cant get enough independant information to justify the cost.
You quote 200-250, I was readin more like 299. Cant find anything about anyone else making a trans chip, try it and let us know??

It's great with ANY of the engine chips. Shifts faster. EAT chip is the smoothest by far. Keeps the engine right in that torque envelope.
what about the shift points, mine shifts early unless i smash the peddle.

i have a '92 535ia with dinan engine and tranny chips. I would recommend the tranny chip. it shifts firmer (similar to sport mode), and holds lower gears slightly longer (just about right). I always hated the super quick 1st to 2nd shift, which seemed to happen right after you moved off from a stop. Now it holds 1st slightly longer, and it is easier to hold it in all lower gears through accelerator pedal pressure.
It is very similar in feel to sport mode, except that it will of course shift into overdrive gears in "D".
these are all comments on a 535ia's ZF-4HP-22, I don't know what it does on other transmissions.
I like it. Worth the money IMHO.
Ok, if the trans shifts in "D" like it is in "S" mode, what happens when the trans is shifted into "S" mode? Is "S" mode redundant with the Dinan chip. Just curious. BTW, Dinan lists the chip for 199 on their site (pdf file).

Thanks for the info guys, I'll look into in the future. At this time though, it goes at the end of a long to-do list.

i know a few people that have it, and they all recommend it. i've been lagging to get myself to dinan, which is less than 10 min away from where i live, and pick myself up one.
like what bighc2000 said, dinan lists the chip for $199. http://dinancars.com/pdf/PAGuide.pdf
Like I said previously, EAT engine chip + Dinan Trans chip is a great combo.
