Yeah, good thinking. I'll give you $5 for it
My 91 535i with 150k miles won't go in reverse...the gear doesnt engage. when the car hasnt been running for a couple of hours its fine but after 30 mins of driving or so, it wont go in reverse. i had the fluid replaced last year which resulted in the transmission failing (the gears wouldn't engage at all) so i had to rebuild... i think its time to dump this car. what do you guys think?

so..... you have an auto? if so, i hear the manual conversion is rather fun once completed with the 535.
if you have a manual and it wont engage, then.... get a 540?

**UPDATE**
don't know if this is germane but i drove the car for 15 mins when this happened.
i pull over and put it in reverse and rev the engine...nothing happens as expected. but then i get a "trans program" message..i turn the car off and on, the message is still there. i try the reverse again, now it works. BUT, before when i put it in drive there was always a lunge forward with the car moving without me having to step on the gas. now the car creeps forward and i have to actually actively press the gas pedal in order to get rolling...
does this sound like a rebuild? thoughts?
