Alarm System Query - 95 520SE

I've just bought a 1995 520SE Automatic and have a query with the alarm/immobiliser system; which is a BMW system.

When I disable the alarm (using the remote) I have to start the car almost immediately otherwise the immobiliser kicks in. This is obviously a pain if I want to load anything in the boot as I have to disable the alarm again (consequently waking all the neighbours as it's LOUD!)

The immobiliser also kicks in if I take the key out (even when I've not activated the alarm or locked the car).

is there any way to change the settings? Any advice?

Your car is an SE = from U.K. = U.K. version. U.S. spec. cars have a different alarm system.
I would suggest you contact the chaps from the E32 board here, they also know a lot about E34 and have some too
