trouble resetting SLI

Since I have purchased my 94 525 I have made about 4 oil changes. The first time I reset the service indicator without a problem by jumping the two pins in the receptacle. The second time I noticed it took alot longer, maybe 30 seconds. Now it won't reset at all. It also seems like the indicator bars are dropping out much slower, maybe 1 every 4-5000 miles. Any thoughts? If the red warning light does comes on, is their any way to disable it? Thanks, Walt

remove the jumper before turning key off. Must of the places suggest you to climb on the car and wait for the green lights to light on, then turn the key off, but my car does not work this way. I have to put the jumper and remove it on the proper time, 3-4 seconds for oil service, 12-13 for inspection.
