I was told by someone that steam cleaning leather is the way to go. Supposedly gets it incredibly clean and makes it supple. I'm very dubious of this. Does anyone have any experience doing this?

but I wonder if after deep cleaning to such a degree that the oils have been removed, wouldn't then replacing those oils with a conditioner yield nice results?

steam = more than 100 degree Celsius!
Do you want to boil your leather and get is shrunk and damaged?
