I'd suspect a massive vacuum leak on the engine side of the throttle body, and/or a failed Idle Control Valve, or somebody's screwed with the throttle stop screw in an attempt to solve a stalling problem.
Hi Folks
My friend has a 1992 525ix auto , which idles strangley.
When in drive it idles at about 1300rpm, in neutral 2000rpm. Can anybody give any idea wat might cause this ?
Thanks
Rory.

Check for cracked or loose hoses under the intake manifold. everything that hooks into there can cause a vacuum leak if it is unplugged. If not, clean out that ICV
