Default Not that this is an easy thing to see...

I just made sure that they were all plugged in nice and tight and then button the thing back up. That did not fix the problem. Thanks for all the responses! I am starting to think that this might be one for the dealer...

But maybe the mechanic was fighting with getting the filter out and arced some wires together. I don't suppose you looked real close to see if there were carbon marks anywhere?

Yeah - it's a long shot... and a PITA to check.

A junkyard or others on the board (e.g. Winfred and his yard full of E34 parts) may have another unit to plug in as a check.

Default It probably is a bad plug-in connection. I suggest...

Remove and replace the OBC (Bentley describes the process). The action of R/R should help remove oxidation from the terminals.

It is more likely that the problem is with the plug-in connectors on the rear of the cluster. They cause more problems than the OBC.

Although just removing and replacing will help clean them, STABILANT 22 will help the fix last longer. http://www.stabilant.com

I have a 1995 525i and the dash display (where the time, date, etc) can appear beneath the speedo is not working. It stopped working right after my mechanic replaced the cabin air filter. He claims its a wild coincidence, I think that he might have loosened a wire behind the OBC while fiddling around with the filter. The OBC near the gearshift recieves messages from the control stalk but it doesnt seem to be sending the display back to the dash. I was wanting to take out the OBC and make sure everything was plugged in nice and snug. What would be the easiest way to do this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree. I am sure the display works properly because it will give me diagnostic messages (LOW WASHER FLUID) and the seatbelt warning when I start the car. Thanks in advance!

I will do that, looks like I will need to pick up a Bentley. In response to the previous post, I didnt see any carbon marks, but then again I wasnt looking for them. I did set the speed warning to 40 mph and then exceeded it and got the chime but no display on the dash. This really make me think that something must be loose back there. Thanks guys!

Default Are you geting stereo notifications ...

on the dash? What about the Check Control warnings? (Easy ones to produce are lights on, door open or hand brake). There is a Data Link that involves Integrated Climate Regulation Control Module and the OBC in TxD and RxD connections, but guess if there would be a problem in the data buss, it would take all the sources out. Plug/Unplug OBC and Dash connections seems a good advise.

All the check control warnings work just fine. It is only ones originating from the OBC that seem to be the problem.
