E34 Board Format question

Excuse this question of ignorance, but as a new user, it seems that each time I log on, one of two page formats come up. The first (which I prefer) lists all the new topics, and when each is touched with the cursor, pop open an excellent preview panel. The second format has a 'ladder' array of all responses dragging below each main heading - not my personal preference.
So - do I have a choice? If so, how do I key in my 'opening page' preference?
Or is this a series of developments in a new format?

yes, go to "User CP" > Options , and select which one you want

then every time you login that format will be used. (sounds like you like Linear, so use that )
